Derby Trailblazers recently hosted a vibrant and inspiring “Her World, Her Rules” event,
placing the spotlight firmly on the next generation of female talent in and around the city.
More than thirty-five players gathered for the free sessions, which welcomed a diverse mix of
newcomers and experienced athletes for an afternoon of skill development and high-energy
competition on court.
Supported by Basketball England, the clinic was led by qualified coaches Lily and Grace,
with expert oversight from the club’s Head Mini Basketball Coach, CJ. The atmosphere was
electric as participants worked through technical drills before transitioning into a series of
engaging games and basketball-themed activities throughout the day.
The event also welcomed a special guest, in local MP Catherine Atkinson, who traded her
formal duties for a basketball to join the players on court.
“It was brilliant to join the ‘Her World, Her Rules’ event, and even more special to have my
daughter there with me and for us both to get stuck in,” Atkinson remarked. She noted the
incredible energy on the court, highlighting the importance of girls learning new skills,
building friendships, and staying active in a supportive environment.
Events like these are built upon a proud foundation. Since our formation in 2000, the Derby
Trailblazers have grown from a small community initiative into one of the most respected
basketball clubs in the country. With a history of success in the National Basketball League,
and a reputation for elite player development, the club has always been about more than just
the scoreboard – it is about providing a home for the sport in the heart of the city.
This “Her World, Her Rules” initiative is a vital part of our ongoing mission to expand our
legacy. We are fully committed to establishing a comprehensive pathway for female players,
ensuring that girls of all ages and abilities, from those picking up a ball for the first time to
those aspiring to play at the highest level, have a dedicated space to thrive in our sport.
If you have ever watched a game and wondered if you could do it too, or if you are looking
for a new way to stay active and meet a fantastic group of people, this is your sign to give it
a go. Basketball is a unique sport that builds confidence, coordination, and lifelong
memories. At the Trailblazers, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive, welcoming
environment where the only thing that matters is your willingness to try.
A massive thank you goes out to the coaches, staff, and volunteers whose meticulous
planning made the day a triumph. Most importantly, the club would like to thank every player
who brought their passion and energy to the court. It was truly a day to remember for the
entire Blazers community.
If you are interested in joining a future event, attending a training session, or simply learning

can’t wait to see you on the court!
