Ptak hard work pays off as he steps up from Academy to D1 Men

Luke Ptak signs for Derby Trailblazers Mens Senior Team

6’6” forward Luke Ptak is the latest Derby Trailblazers to complete the player pathway by working his way through the club’s junior system and into the senior men’s line up.

A regular face in the U16 Boys, U18 and D3 Men’s squads in recent years, Ptak is delighted to making the next step in his playing career:

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been training with many of the guys over the past twelve months and throughout the summer and I think that’s really helped with my personal development.

“Now the summer is over, I feel I’m ready to get to work and see how good this team can become over the course of the season.”

Trailblazers Head Coach Matt Shaw says youth development remains a primary focus for the club as a whole:

“It’s great to have players like Charlie Brown and Luke Ptak on the D1 squad this season. As a club, for several years we’ve consistently given junior players the opportunity to develop while being part of first team. It’s a big part of what we try to do here.

“Ptak continues to develop and improve each day. His dedication is up there with the best of them so I am confident he’ll use his experience with d1 to take his game up another level. He’s explosive with a nice touch around the basket and the ability to knock down the outside shot.

“Those are traits which every coach will like. How he handles the extra physicality at this level will be interesting to watch, because it’s always a tough step up.

“However, I know he’s fully committed to his strength and conditioning programme and I expect that to help him a lot as he matches up against a lot of older and more physical players on other teams,” he said.

Thenew season gets underway on Saturday 22ndSeptember, when Derby welcome newly promoted Nottingham Hoods to Noel-Baker Academy in the Pool Stage of the NBL Men’s Trophy.
