Benson brings American experience back to Trailblazers

Benson Arogbo returns to Derby Trailblazers

Having graduated from the University of Maine-Fort Kent, Benson Arogbo is returning to Derby Trailblazers to continue where he left off prior to his studies in America.

The 6’5” guard was a member of the Derby Trailblazers Basketball Academy, but also picked up minutes for the D1 Men’s team prior to his American adventure and Head Coach Matt Shaw is delighted to have him back at the club:

“It’s going to be fun working with Benson again. We expect him to give us a lot of energy and we know he’s got the ability to score by getting to the basket and getting out in transition,” he said.

In his senior year at Maine-Fort Kent, Arogbo averaged 5.6 points per game, to which he added 4.6 rebounds and just less than one steal and one assist, whilst playing just under twenty-four minutes per game.

Benson is also keen to get back on court to show his friends and family how his game has progressed during his time away:

“It’s good to be back. The league has changed quite a bit since I left for the States but I’m eager to get back in it and get to work. It’s been a great experience to spend the last four years in the States.

“As to what I’ve learnt, I think the American experience just takes whatever you were good at before you left and makes it better still, but the main thing for me was that it really helped to improve my overall understanding of the game”, he said.

The Trailblazers will make further player announcements over the next couple of weeks, ahead of the new season which gets underway on Saturday 22ndSeptember, as Derby welcome newly promoted Nottingham Hoodsto Noel-Baker Academy in the Pool Stage of the NBL Men’s Trophy.
