Our Vision

The Biggest Rivalry in British Basketball Is Back!

Derby Trailblazers will take on BBL side Leicester Riders over two legs in a special pre-season basketball feast.
Derby will travel to the John Sandford Sports Centre in Leicester on Saturday 20th September (Tip 7.30pm), and the two sides will do battle again at Moorways Sports Centre in Derby, the following day (Tip 5pm). OK, so it might not be quite the same as when Derby and Leicester did battle on a regular basis in the BBL, but it will probably be the next best thing! Don't miss it!

Fixtures Announced

England Basketball have now released full fixtures lists for the new season.

In Division One, the league programme sees the addition of Cardiff and Teeside, both of whom were promoted at the end of last season. These two sides replace Worthing Thunder, who have joined the BBL and the College of West Anglia Fury, who were relegated and have subsequently opted to merge their first and second teams. The league format will operate as before, with 18 league matches from November to March. The EBL Trophy has been expanded, such that there will be eight matches in the group stages, with the top two from each group going through to the semi-finals. The group matches will be played in two batches, in September/October and in January. Derby are paired with Coventry, Manchester, Sheffield and Teeside. The National Cup draw has also been made, with the Trailblazers facing Loughborough Student Cardinals in the first round. Click Here for Division One League / Trophy / Cup Fixtures

Following their promotion last season, Trailblazers II will play their games in a tough looking Division Three North. They begin their league programme with a trip to Durham on September 27th, but will get their season underway by beginning their defence of their EBL Men’s Shield Title a week earlier. The draw for this competition has not yet been made. Click Here for Division Three League / Shield Fixtures

The Under 18’s have opted to join the Northern Premier League, where the standard is expected much tougher than what they experienced as they romped to the Midlands Premier League title last season. The Under 16’s stay in the Midlands Premier League, whilst the Under 15’s and U13’s remain in their respective conferences.  Full Junior Fixtures will be posted shortly.

Andy Booth Memorial Game

This year's Andy Booth Memorial game took place on Saturday 7th June at Moorways. Nearly five hundred people turned out to watch possibly the best line up of players ever seen in the five years of the event.

Over £2,000 was raised for the Memorial Fund, during which a cheque for £500 was presented to the latest beneficiary of the fund, Nick Lewis. Nick has come through the Trailblazers junior programme and played for the Under 18's and both senior mens teams during the 2007/08 season. He will be going to the States in September to help further his dream. Everyone at the Trailblazers would like to wish him good luck as he prepares to depart.

2007/08 - What a Season!

In the Trailblazers relatively short history, 2007/08 could easily be described as the club's most successful yet.

The Men's second team (pictured above) produced an all conquering season, winning the Division Four Midlands/South League Title, the National Division Four Play-Off Final, the EBL Men's Shield competition. They have been rewarded with promotion to Division Three North.

The Under 18's won the Midlands Premier League title and finished third in the National Finals at RAF Cosford.

And the Senior Men's team overcame a number of problems to produce a successful conclusion to their first ever season in Division One.

After fiinishing sixth in the league, they knocked third placed Worthing Thunder out of the playoffs at the quarter final stage, to book themselves an appearance at the Final Fours weekend in Sheffield. Unfortunately, the semi-final tie against Reading proved a step too far, but the club learned a lot from the experience and are now looking forward to the 2008/09 season, which gets underway on the final weekend of September.
