Our History

The club was formed in the summer of 2000 running teams for boys at cadet (under 16) and junior (under 18) levels and senior women in the national basketball league. Since then the club has grown and now provides opportunities for girls, boys, women and men to play, coach and officiate in the exciting game of basketball.

Blazers head to Northumbria

There's a sense of entering into the unknown for Derby Trailblazers this weekend, as they take on Team Northumbria for the first time since the north eastern team gained promotion to the top flight. The two sides meet in the pool stage of the EBL Men's Trophy, having experience contrasting results in their opening matches last weekend.

Blazers begin Trophy defence with Westminster Win

Derby Trailblazers began the defence of their EBL Men's Trophy with hard fought 64-57 home win over Westminster Warriors. New American guard Nick Rose, who joins the club as part of its partnership with Derby University, top scored with 21 points, to which he added six rebounds and two assists.

Martyn Gayle led the team from the back court with authority and maturity which was befitting of his new role as co-captain. The popular guard eased his way towards 19 points and 8 rebounds, while another new signing Jeff Smith led the team in rebounding, pulling down 11 boards, five of them at the offensive end of the court.

New look Trailblazers begin Trophy defence

Coach Maudsley

Derby Trailblazers begin the defence of the EBL Men's Trophy on Saturday with a home match against Westminster Warriors. However, it will be a vastly different looking side to the one which won the Trophy last season and went on to finish as runners up in the Play-Offs and third in the division one league table.

Seven of the players from that squad are no longer with the club, with some having moved to America to begin college programmes, others have moved on to Europe or back to America, while injuries have forced one player into retirement and another to take a year out from the sport.
